Dr Avedis Ekmejian was awarded his medical degree from the University of Western Sydney before pursuing his cardiology specialist training across several tertiary hospitals in New South Wales. His interventional cardiology subspecialist training was undertaken at Royal North Shore Hospital.
He holds a Master of Science from the University of Edinburgh, and completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, with a focus on the use of advanced imaging and analysis techniques to optimise stent placement and improve patient outcomes.

As an interventional cardiology subspecialist, Dr Ekmejian is highly trained in performing minimally-invasive surgical procedures. While he is competent in these techniques for the management of severe cardiac disease, Dr Ekmejian is also a strong advocate for preventative care for all his patients.
In addition to his clinical appointments, Dr Ekmejian holds several teaching, research, and leadership roles. He is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney, co-director of cardiology training at Royal North Shore Hospital, and associate editor of Heart Lung and Circulation, Australia’s premier cardiac medicine journal.
In line with his constant pursuit of improving patient outcomes, Dr Ekmejian is also a senior clinical research fellow at the Kolling Institute and the medical director of Heart Research Australia.
Dr Ekmejian is a husband and father, an avid tennis fan, and amateur player.
