Dr Young Yu  graduated in 2003 from UNSW with class 1 honours he completed cardiology training at St George and Prince of Wales hospital.

Transferring to Royal Prince Alfred hospital, Dr Yu pursued a demanding PhD funded by the National Heart Foundation in translational medicine, developing a non-clotting surface for cardiovascular devices.

He travelled overseas for a highly competitive fellowship in interventional cardiology (minimal invasive treatment of coronary artery disease with stents) at the prestigious Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Here, Dr Yu honed his skills in complex and challenging stenting cases with world leaders in the field.

Dr Yu is appointed as an honorary interventional cardiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a Visiting Medical Officer at Hurstville Private Hospital and Macquarie Hospital. He is involved in clinical teaching and mentorship.

He has particular interest in innovative stent technology. His PhD focused on enhancing stent biocompatibility to reduce the current short comings with stent implantation. Dr Yu has a unique understanding on stent safety which translate into his clinical practice.

While his main interest lies in the treatment of complex coronary artery disease Dr Yu sees himself foremost as a general cardiologist. He has extensive experience in the treatment of valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. Presently he is involved in the first Australian clinical experience of a new heart failure medicine with the potential to significantly improve patient symptoms and prognosis.
